Builders Merchants Reports Huge Rock Salt Sales
The Barnard Castle branch of S&A Builders Merchants are reporting unprecedented sales of rock salt having already sold a "traditional" winters worth of stock in the first three days of business in the New Year.
Geoff Simpson, Managing Director reports "with the snow and cold just before Christmas our salt sales went through the roof and now in the New Year sales are doing anything but slowing".
The company has now been forced to pre-sell the salt with continuity of deliveries coming in from suppliers being hampered by the bad weather and the national demand on suppliers means availability is also becoming an issue.
"We had a lorry turn up today with bags of salt and it didn’t even make it into the yard as there was a queue of people waiting - I have never seen anything like it!" commented Bryan Thompson-Calvert, Branch Supervisor. "We’ve also had a run on shovels and wellies, but still have plenty of stock of those for the time being".
With the cold spell predicted to continue for the next couple of weeks S&A are doing everything possible to meet with the demands of the local community and are confident that supplies won’t run out, but their deliveries, like the rest of us, are also at the mercy of the weather.
Its not just sales that S&A seem to be enjoying at the moment. The lads in the shop are doing their bit by clearing snow not only in their own car park but for the neighbours as well. Bryan commented " we especially like to help out The Little Ladybirds Nursery next door as the kids always make us a cake or some buns as a thank you!!!!"
